Individual Typological Questionnaire

Lability Scale

The Lability Scale (emotivity) in the Individual Typological Questionnaire reflects the degree of emotional variability, sensitivity, and intensity of experiences. It describes the characteristics of emotional responses to external and internal stimuli, including a tendency toward frequent mood shifts, impressionability, quick emotional involvement, and prolonged “processing” of events. Lability does not necessarily indicate emotional instability — it may reflect deep responsiveness and a rich inner world.

🟥 High scores on the Lability Scale (8–9 points) indicate strong emotional mobility and sensitivity. Such individuals react vividly, with intense feelings, quickly become emotionally involved in events, and take a long time to recover from impressions. They experience both joyful and sad events deeply, are highly responsive to approval and criticism, and may be vulnerable and easily hurt. This level of lability can make emotional recovery after stress more difficult, but it also makes a person especially empathetic, responsive, and capable of perceiving others’ emotions with great subtlety.

🟨 Moderately elevated scores (5–7 points) reflect heightened emotional sensitivity combined with preserved control and adaptability. Emotional fluctuations are present, but they do not interfere with daily functioning or social interactions. Such individuals are capable of genuine empathy, emotional depth, and lively engagement with events, while still maintaining self‑regulation. Mild vulnerability may coexist with inner resilience and the ability to cope with worries without significant disruption of behavioral balance.

🟩 A medium level (2–4 points) indicates emotional balance and stability with a certain degree of sensitivity. Emotional reactions correspond to the situation and remain within normal limits. Mood is relatively stable, reactions are moderate, and the speed of emotional engagement and recovery is typical. A person can experience and express emotions sincerely while maintaining balance and not allowing feelings to overwhelm rational thinking.

🟦 Low scores (0–1 point) may indicate reduced emotional sensitivity, restraint, or even emotional detachment. Such individuals typically demonstrate a high degree of self‑control, are not inclined to vivid emotional expression, and may find it difficult to engage emotionally. This may reflect resilience, but it can also indicate difficulty expressing emotions, slowed emotional responses, or limited access to one’s own feelings.

The Lability Scale helps assess the depth and flexibility of the emotional sphere, a person’s capacity for empathy, emotional responsiveness, and self‑regulation. These data are important for understanding one’s emotional response style, attachment patterns, and adaptive resources under changing conditions and stress.
